Journal Insights

Aims and scope: The Functional Foods in Health and Disease (FFHD) journal provides a platform for the exchange of cutting-edge biomedical research centered around the impacts and development of functional food products (FFPs) along with their role in disease management. The information presented in published articles must be novel, influential, and of high quality.

The scope of this journal is research investigations and development of new functional food products for specific chronic diseases or their symptoms. Main focus of the journal is preclinical, clinical, and epidemiological investigations on efficacy of food bioactive compounds, as well as efficacy of functional foods in whole.  FFHD journal concentrates on steps for developing FFPs such as determination of relevant bioactive compound(s), establishing an appropriate dosage for the identified bioactive compound, and many other mandatory steps which are necessary to create FFPs. Print ISSN: 2378-7007

Subject areas: The journal covers functional food products, food bioactive compounds (probiotics, prebiotics, sterols, minerals, vitamins, dietary fiber, flavonoids, lipids, polyphenols, phytochemicals, and more), and their role in reducing the risk of chronic and viral diseases. Additionally, the FFHD journal focuses on establishing molecular mechanisms of action of FBCs, finding biomarkers, developing food vehicles to house the FBC, in vivo and in vitro studies to ensure safety and efficacy of the product, clinical trials to determine proper human dosages and side effects, and epidemiological studies to determine long-term efficacy in uncontrolled environments.

Impact: The journal began publication in February 2011. As of March 2024, Scopus has assigned a CiteScore of 2.0 to this journal, and the Web of Science reported an Impact Factor of 1.04, as of 2023.

Article Publishing Fee: The article publication fee for the journal is $1595.00 US dollars. All articles are gold open-access which means that, once published, they are immediately accessible by anyone, anywhere.
